So, I just recently got a gaming desktop. Ordered it off Newegg. Honestly, I would have tried building my own, but I was kind of in a hurry. See, the whole reason I was buying a new PC anyway was because my laptop was starting to show signs of a faulty hard drive and I didn't want to risk being without a computer. I'd have gotten a desktop one way or the other, but I didn't plan on buying one until later this year.
That said, I don't regret my purchase at all. This thing is awesome! I used to swear by laptops because I enjoyed being able to carry my computer around with me, but then it dawned on me that I barely ever leave the damn house anyway--not to mention the fact that laptops are pretty much impossible to upgrade. Despite my family thinking I'm some kind of IT professional, I never really knew much about computers and it wasn't until recently that I learned about how desktops can be upgraded and modified to your heart's content.
Needless to say, if I ever need portability in the future, I'll just use a cheap-ass netbook.
Anyway! The biggest reason I'm so excited about having this computer is that it's finally enabled me to use Steam. I mean, I already had an account, but my laptop couldn't really run powerful games. So, I just didn't bother. Now? Oho, I shuddered with delight when I saw how well this computer could run Bulletstorm and Team Fortress 2. I'm completely new to the world of PC gaming, so I was like a little kid at the candy store. I mean, every other desktop I've had has been a heap of junk.
Only game I've been having trouble with has been Portal 2. Kinda lags when I pass an Emancipation Grid. I might get a new graphics card when I get the money. But every other game is pretty much flawless, so I can't complain.
Congrats on the beefy new machine! I finally gave up on laptops a few years ago. They just couldn't be updated and keep up with gaming. My wife got me a 'grown up' (Ie: working) PC for christmas a couple of years ago, and that was my introduction to Steam and I love it. :)
ReplyDeleteNice. The reason I turned to laptops was because I had a few bad experiences with desktops. Never really occurred to me that I just wasn't paying attention to the specs.
